The Three "G"s

It’s party time for the rich of the world! The stock market keeps breaking into higher and higher levels. Technology, science and medicine are discovering more ways every day to make our lives more comfortable, pleasant, and exciting. The rich are getting richer every hour. What new pursuits of decadence can we afford now? Let’s buy a bigger house, a faster car, a larger sailboat, a fancier set of golf clubs, and a summer home in Aspen or…maybe a new jet and a complete set of Louis Viutton luggage while we are at it. It seems like everything is so wonderful…until we look at our lives through the eyes of heaven. It is frightening to see so many millions living only for the pleasure of the moment without any regard to their eternity. What is even more sobering is to recognize how many in the “church” who are supposed to belong to Yeshua, are living the very same as the wicked of the world – full of selfishness, lust, greed, covetousness, and pride.

Yeshua told a parable that really speaks of this clearly:

“The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully;
And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
But God said unto him, Thou fool, THIS NIGHT thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
So is he that layeth up treasure FOR HIMSELF, AND IS NOT RICH TOWARD GOD.”
(Luke 12:16-21)

We must remember this: we don’t really own what we have. We are only stewards of it. Everything we have has been loaned to us by God as a free gift of His grace. He still owns it. We all will have to give an accounting for what we have been given in this life before the throne of God. From the food on our table, to the billions in the bank of some – all of it came from God. As it is written:

“A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.” (John 3:27)

I once heard a story about an old Baptist pastor. He had been in ministry for over 50 years. He had seen everything! He was training up some young men in His church to prepare them for ministry. It was his last message to them before they were to be ordained and sent out.

This is what he told them:

“Boys, I have to tell you something today. WATCH OUT FOR THE THREE “G’s”! If you can escape from the three “G’s”, you’ll make it in ministry and the devil can’t get you. Beware of the three “G’s”! Don’t touch the three “G’s”! I’ve seen so many fall because they couldn’t resist the three “G’s”! Boys, I’m warning you – if you touch them, I can tell you right now that you’ll never fulfill your calling. You’d be better off pumping gas, selling shoes, or flipping burgers than if you play with any of them.

You’re probably wondering what I’m talking about. So here they are: the three “G’s” -

The Gals…the Gold…and the Glory.

They are off limits: these three…Just like the tree in the garden that Adam and Eve should never have eaten from…These three will kill you faster than any poison! DON’T TOUCH THEM!!!

“God gives you each one gal and no more. If you run after skirts, God will yank the anointing off of you faster than a New York minute and give your ministry to someone else. Don’t look too hard or long at them and never touch them in the wrong way! Stay away from compromising situations. Don’t be alone with a woman. If you get a secretary to help you, find some fat, ugly old woman with warts on her nose and bad teeth. Watch out for them gals!! Keep yourself pure! Enjoy YOUR gal and no one else’s! Your gal is the only one that will really make you happy anyway.

“God gives you only as much gold as you can handle and no more. He’ll let you handle lots of it if you don’t have sticky fingers. Let money flow THROUGH your hands to bless others and you’ll never lack. Be quick to give away your last dollar. When you do, you’ll see how fast God will show up with His provision. But it you try to hold on to money, it will end up putting you in prison spiritually. If you fall in love with it, it can damn your soul to hell faster than anything else. Kill greed in you before it kills you and your ministry! Make gold the servant of the Kingdom of God. Pay God FIRST, pay others NEXT. Pay yourself LAST. Then, you will see how rich your Heavenly Father really is and He will make you wealthy in the ways that really counts.

Finally, boys, watch out for the GLORY! You can’t touch the glory! No matter what, it isn’t yours so you can’t have it – EVER. If God starts to bless you, don’t think that you’re better than everyone else, because you’re not. Stop trying to impress everyone how spiritual you are. Forget about yourself. Lift up the LORD!!! The anointing is for service, not for ruling over people. Always point people to Jesus, not to yourself. YOU are not the king that is to be worshipped – JESUS IS!!!! The must disgusting people I have ever known are those that abuse the anointing of the Holy Spirit and prostitute it for their own benefit. Don’t be a peacock in front of others. Be a workhorse instead. Don’t ever take the glory from God! Always GIVE it back to Him! Then, and only then, are you qualified to minister for Him. Stay small in your own eyes. Don’t be a legend in your own mind. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Don’t compete with each other. Don’t try to have a bigger, better, and more influential church or ministry than anyone else. Kill all ambition for this kind of “success”. Don’t build an empire down here. Build the Kingdom of God instead. Give it ALL away. Don’t “make a name for yourself”. Make a place for the greatest Name of all – JESUS! Don’t talk about yourself, talk about HIM! Live to give and you’ll have joy. Live for yourself and you’ll be miserable. I know that that sounds like idiocy to the world. But that is true success the way God sees it. That’s the only way things work in God’s Kingdom. That’s just plain and simple – the way it is!

The three “G’s” – Stay away from them and you will please God. Did you get that, boys?!”

If there is any scripture that is for us today, I believe it is this one:

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”(1John 2:15-16)

This is nothing new. It is as old as the sin nature itself. But if we don’t watch it, it is very easy for these things to gain the ascendancy over us. The pull of the world system in our day is extremely strong. Like the undertow of a mighty river, it will pull us under its’ control if we are not careful. Don’t underestimate its’ power. It is only by the Greater One in us – the power of the Holy Spirit and by His grace that we can overcome.

One time when I was visiting Uppsala, Sweden, Dr. Lester Sumrall gave a message on overcoming sin in our personal lives. He said, “It’s like this. You have two dogs on the inside of you – a mean dog and a nice dog. The dog that you feed is the dog that wins.”

Feed your spirit with the good things of God’s Word and His Spirit. Starve you flesh until you have brought it under the control of the new nature of your born again, recreated spirit.

Stop feeding on television, unclean music, internet garbage, and bad movies. Don’t hang out with evil people, even if they pretend to be your friends and they are “popular”. Choose to be with people that are on fire for God and spend time with them instead. You become like whom you hang out with, so choose your friends carefully.

It is like tending a garden in your heart. Plant the good things of the Kingdom there and weed out everything that is evil. GOD WILL NOT DO THAT FOR YOU. YOU MUST DO THIS YOURSELF! It is a daily exercise. It won’t go away, so you have to spend time every day weeding, planting and watering the garden of your heart, if you want victory. You have to guard your eyes and ears from exposing yourself to evil things.

These are perilous times. Don’t be fooled by “the easy life”. It’s war. You must swim upstream – against the current. The enemy is fighting for your soul and any foothold he can get in it. Do not give him any place in your life.

Lust and sin promises to please and serve, but if you give in to it, it will enslave and dominate you until it chokes out the life of God in you. Money is a wonderful servant but a terrible master. Let God purge the love of money out of your heart and life. Humble yourself under God’s mighty hand and never take the glory that belongs only to Him – the King of the Universe – the Almighty God and our Father, blessed be He. Amen.

Beloved, I urge you. Live a holy life and stay away from idolatry and sin!

That is the only way to be pleasing to our Messiah and Lord.

God bless you!

May you remain in Him as His beloved Bride!

Love in our Messiah,

Maurice Sklar
